Bulgaria

Bulgaria's greatest successes in women's volleyball came more than three decades ago when they won bronze at the Moscow 1980 Olympic Games, followed by gold at the 1981 European Championship. They had previously won a bronze at the 1979 European championship and got another bronze in 2001. They were ninth in the most recent edition of the competition, in 2017.

In 2014 Bulgaria finished 11th in the FIVB World Championship - their first appearance since 2002. Their best placing in the World Championship has been a fourth place in the inaugural edition of 1952. Bulgaria first joined the FIVB World Grand Prix in 2013, finishing 9th which remained their best placing until the competition was discontinued after 2017.
